I walk an arcane path, the ancient practice almost forgotten, the way of Seiðr.
I walk between worlds, as a shamanic witch and seer- or Völva which means "the wand-carrier" or "the carrier of magic".
Volva aka "fjǫlkunnig" which means "plenty of (inner) knowing" indicates the völva knew seiðr, spá (root word of 'spy') and galdr (sorcery, prophecy and shamanic chanting/enchantments) and was respected and given high regard for her foreknowing, gift of prophecy and gnosis in weaving in the web of Wyrd.
The weapon of the vǫlva was not the spear, the axe or the sword, but instead the Vǫlur were held to influence battles with different means, and one of them was the wand, (root of 'wands' in the tarot; depicts fire)
A practitioner of seiðr alone, is known as a seiðkona.
A volva in Norse mythology often practised seiðr magic known by few in Norse mythology.
It is a solitary path. Most of what I know I have remembered and seen beyond this spacetime, I have not 'learnt', studied or read in books.
Spá is the art of determining ørlög by intuition or personal gnosis. Ørlög is literally "ur", meaning ancient or primeval, and "lög" is law: ørlög is the law of how things will be, laid down by wyrd or fate by the three Norns.
In these traditions, it is believed that there resides in women an element of sacredness and a gift of prophecy; Seiðr is a form of enchantment, it is thought to be related to the word "seethe" and is derived from the rituals of boiling sea water to make salt, "seething" is an 'extraction' to create magic, by the use of drawing staves/sigils, spellwork, potions, bone magic/craft, wood, plants-all sentience has an archetypal life force energy present (animism) some lesser some greater degree exists in all things, and are connected to the Web of Wyrd.
It is a form of Alchemy more ancient than time.
It is a magical and alchemical process involving the elements primarily fire , a transmutation of the raw and profane to it's pure pristine state-
The essence
According to norse mythology, the reason for the war between god tribes was related to Freya and her being a volva. Because she was a volva, she took up the life of a wanderer travelling everywhere to practise her magic. She was so famous that her stories reached Asgard.
The Aesir gods (who lived in Asgard) were so excited to ask her to Asgard and practise her magic. On arriving Asgard, Freya showed her magic to the gods who didn't know the volva was goddess Freya.
And gods gradually revealed their shortcomings like disloyalty, selfishness, etc. They attributed this to the magic of the volva and called her a witch. They tried to burn the witch three times. But three times they burnt the volva, three times she walked from the burning fire.
Learning of this, the Vanir god tribe (tribe of Freya) was so angry that they waged war against the Aesir gods.
She was a catalyst and trigger for weakness in men, first redfllag signs of gender envy? Perhaps this is what started the stigma of men practicing seidr, 'becoming effeminate' opening themselves up to spirit possession and voyaging meant "being ridden", you can see how context is lost.
Or simply just the powerlessness of petty, linear men, unable to tap into the source field and effect anything. Those who have always resented women for their intuitive knowing and natural abilities. Perhaps they just sought to distract men in finding the truth and seeing women as an equal or even a wiser guide..
In earlier accounts in the eddas and sagas, both men and women practiced Seidr..
It's an old story that has run its course and we are returning to our original source, .
We are preparing for the demise of a great cycle, a falling of an Aeon. Time to
balance the scales
